Mission Statement:

The mission of the Society for Human Performance in Extreme Environments is to lower the boundaries between scientific disciplines and encourage collaboration and discovery concerning activities in environments in which humankind is not naturally suited to endure.



Society Objectives

  • To identify and unite scientists, researchers, operational personnel, and other professionals with expressed interest in the area of human performance and behavior in all complex, high stress technological systems and environments

  • To provide a forum for these professionals to display their contributions to the field by submitting research, articles, abstracts, information, and announcements of opportunities to the Society membership in Human Performance in Extreme Environments, the Society publication

  • To serve as a resource and means of information exchange through which members may benefit professionally

  • To establish a consortium of professionals, resources, research, and information from which organizations and individuals possessing a need for such resources may draw

  • To accumulate an extensive database of publications relating to this area of specialization

  • To create a source from which to identify possible future research opportunities as well as individuals appropriate for such opportunities

  • To provide momentum for viewing human performance in all complex, stressed, and extreme environments as its own unified area of specialization
