    University-Affiliated Institutes and Laboratories

    • Center for Biological Defense (CBD) - affiliated with the University of South Florida, and components at the University of Texas at Austin and Texas Tech University, the CBD coordinates multidisciplinary biodefense research and tranlates this research from the bench to the field in support of Federal Homeland Defense initiatives in the United States.

    • Computing Research Laboratory at New Mexico State University - affiliated with NMSU's Department of Psychology, the Computing Research Laboratory (CRL) is a non-profit, self-supporting research enterprise committed to basic research and software development in advanced computing applications and is conducting research on the effects of extreme environmental conditions on war fighters.

    • Human Factors & Systems at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University - affiliated with ERAU's Department of Human Factors & Systems, this site provides information about research in multiple extreme settings.

    • Institute for Simulation and Training (IST) - affiliated with the University of Central Florida, IST's mission is to advance the science of modeling and simulation.

    • Laboratory for Health and Human Performance in Extreme Environments - affiliated with the University of Minnesota.

    • MIT2: Minds in Technology & Machines in Thought- collection of laboratories based at the University of Central Florida including the MultiDisciplinary University Research Initiative (MURI) Lab, the Transportation Research Group (TRG) and the Center for Applied Human Factors in Aviation (CAHFA).

    • Police Research at the University of Nebraska at Omaha - currently involved in several national studies on how American police organizations are changing during the community policing era.

    • Team Performance Laboratory (TPL)- based at the University of Central Florida, TPL has a staff composed of research scientists, psychologists, engineers, software developers, and research assistants dedicated to the study of Human Factors Psychology and Engineering, Ergonomics, Usability Engineering, and Cognitive Psychology.

  • Mountain Rescue Association - A volunteer organization dedicated to saving lives through rescue and mountain safety education.

  • National Association for Search and Rescue - NASAR is a non-profit membership association comprised of thousands of dedicated paid and non-paid professionals - all active or interested in search and rescue, disaster aid, emergency medicine and awareness education.

  • National Cave Rescue Commission (NCRC) The National Cave Rescue Commission (NCRC) received its charter from the National Speleological Society in 1979, and serves as the Society's representative on issues of cave rescue training and operations. It is a volunteer group developed primarily to train and track cave rescue resources throughout the United States.
