The Journal of Human Performance in Extreme Environments (JHPEE) is the peer-reviewed, international scientific publication of the Society for Human Performance in Extreme Environments (HPEE).
Scope
JHPEE is the only scientific journal publishing both research and operational findings devoted specifically to the study of human performance and behavior in high-stress environments. It is multidisciplinary in scope, and combines findings from the fields of psychology, human factors, performance, sociology, anthropology, architecture, engineering, and medicine.
Purpose
JHPEE is dedicated to presenting information, data, and concepts that assist those who support the performance of personnel in spaceflight, aviation, polar, undersea, military, battlefield and command, remote-earth, firefighting, special forces, police, and emergency medical operations, among others.
Although these environments and domains are diverse with respect to their environmental attributes, the psychological and performance effects of operating within them are often similar. The primary goal of JHPEE is to consolidate research from these domains in an effort to identify and illustrate common factors that characterize and predict human performance across these domains. Doing so can help the scientific community in establishing a unified and multidimensional understanding of human performance under stress. JHPEE accomplishes this goal in two ways: publishing original articles and reprinting previously published articles.

Reprinted Articles
Reprinted materials are submitted by JHPEE members and editors who search journals, reports, and other resources from a wide variety of disciplines for materials suitable to the scope of JHPEE. The purpose is to bring together publications relevant to human performance in stressful and extreme environments in a single, unified publication.
For all reprinted materials, permission is obtained from publishers and lead authors prior to inclusion in JHPEE. |
Publication Information
JHPEE is published twice per year for members of the Society. For subscription rates and Society membership application information, visit the Membership Information section of the HPEE website.
